NIPPERSINK CANOE BASE ADDITION - KATTNER
The Planning & Development Department of the McHenry County Conservation District would like to invite you to view the Draft Master Plan Canoe Base Addition - Kattner located in southern Burton Township.
The plan of the proposed public access and site improvements will be available for public viewing online from Monday, June 23, 2008 - Friday, July 11, 2008. In addition, a hard copy of the plan and site map are available for public viewing at the District's Brookdale Administrative Offices, 18410 US Highway 14, in Woodstock from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Nippersink Canoe Base Addition - Kattner is a 113 acre parcel that was purchased with grant funds from the State of Illinois to protect the Nippersink Creek and surrounding wetlands as well as add to the District's Nippersink Canoe Base site that is already open to the public. Together, this 347 acre conservation area is located northeast of Route 12 and east of Wilmot Rd. Potential improvements identified in the grant included a nature trail, fishing access to Nippersink Creek, interpretive signage, a picnic shelter, restrooms and drinking fountain. This Draft Master Plan will create an integrated balance between those recreational uses and the protection of the site's sensitive environment.
The timeline for this project is to have a final Master Plan approved at the Thursday, August 21, 2008 Board of Trustees meeting. Plans will then be submitted for the 2009-2010 budget and permitting/engineering work will begin.
We hope you will take this opportunity to view the plans for the site and share any thoughts or comments on this exciting project with us. For more information, call (815) 338-6223.
Respectfully,
Planning and Development
