  Field Trips & Special Events

There are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available in the Education Services Department. Volunteers can choose the best position for them based on geographical location and the amount of time, skill, and leadership level involved.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age, physically capable of carrying out the duties in the job they have selected, reliable, and available at the times required by the position. In most cases, no prior experience is necessary and training is provided as needed. Education volunteers are also asked to attend quarterly gatherings, where there is time to socialize and sign up for upcoming assignments as well as enjoy food, fun and an educational program.

Volunteer positions include:

  • Special event and/or public program assistants; help staff with the logistics and activities of public programs. Sign up to help with the programs that best fit your interests. We offer a variety of programs throughout the county for youth and adult audiences, indoors or outdoors, short or long duration, on weekdays or weekends.
  • Program materials preparation specialists; work at our place or yours, cutting, gluing, sewing, or otherwise helping to prepare the “stuff” we use in our programs.
  • Education center receptionist; help to staff the front desk at Prairieview Education Center and carry out basic office work. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age for this position.
  • School outreach program assistant or leader; assist the staff in delivering programs in classrooms throughout the county.
  • School field trip assistant or leader; assist the staff with conducting school programs at our sites. In general, you can choose to work at Prairieview Education Center east of Crystal Lake, Living Land Farm in Cary or the Wiedrich Education Center in Glacial Park, between Ringwood and Richmond.
